What is the difference between a large slab and a rock slab?
Release date:2021-11-25 Reading volume:672
What is a big board? What is a rock board? Up to now, there is no unified and authoritative definition or concept in the industry. In fact, this does not hinder the development of the slab and slate industry, because the innovation of enterprises will always be ahead of the relevant national standards. For example, antique tiles, fully polished glazes, ceramic sheets, marble tiles that were once popular in the industry……Product innovations that can continuously meet the needs of the market are king.

Let’s take a look at the similarities between the two first:

are all ceramic plates made of inorganic non-metallic materials, all of which need to go through a series of processes such as raw material preparation, pressing, surface decoration, high temperature firing, mechanical cold processing; they are all plates, not bricks, and have certain specifications. There is no uniform standard based on the specific size.

Let’s take a look at the differences between the two:

In terms of specifications, the current mainstream specifications of large boards are mainly 900×1800, 1200×2400, 1600×3600, and of course there are products of larger specifications, as well as a batch of medium boards below 900×1800 specifications. Mainly 750×1500, and some companies also call 600×1200 specifications as medium plates; while rock slabs generally do not include medium plates with specifications below 900×1800, but with 900×1800 specifications and above. host.

In terms of thickness, large slabs have thin plates below 6mm and thick plates over 25mm. The thickness of each manufacturer is different; while rock slabs obviously do not include thin plates below 6mm and those thick plates, whose thickness is mostly 15-22mm. . Of course, the larger the size, the thicker the thickness will be.

From the performance point of view, the surface hardness and flexural strength of the slab are very high, and they can reach the "double zero" water absorption rate, which is far better than ordinary ceramic tiles, but the green body is not necessarily the whole body; The board is different. First, due to its later processing needs, its strength, hardness, and density are far better than large boards, and it is acid and alkali resistant, and zero formaldehyde. Second, its green body must be a whole body. The inside and outside are the same" to facilitate later processing applications.

From the production point of view, due to the higher quality requirements, the press for rock slab production has a larger tonnage than the press for large slab production, usually more than 10,000 tons. At present, the rock slab production press of mainstream enterprises in the industry is 36,000 tons or 45,000 tons. The larger the tonnage, the higher the quality. The products produced by the press less than 10,000 tons, whether it is a large slab or a rock slab, have inherent quality. A certain difference, which is particularly obvious in the later processing applications. The low pressure and uneven distribution result in uneven internal stress of the rock slab, which is easy to break.

On the surface, although the big slabs are mainly imitated natural stone, there are still many products imitating wood, imitating jade, imitating cloth, and even solid colors, wallpaper, terrazzo and other superimposed patterns, including industrial style and post-modernism. The rock slab is mainly based on the texture of natural rock to highlight the performance of its “rock” board; the large slab has various effects such as bright light, soft light and natural surface, and the rock board is mostly bright and soft. Mainly light; imitation stone slabs pursue four-continuous, eight-continuous, and even infinite continuous patterns as their selling point, but rock slabs usually do not pursue infinite continuous patterns, but are based on the realistic and delicate texture, pattern, and texture.

From the application point of view, the application of large panels is dominated by the wall and floor planes of homes and commercial spaces, and they mainly compete with traditional ceramic tiles for space applications, such as paving and pasting walls, including background walls. Of course, they also include outdoor walls, curtain walls, etc. Tunnels, rail transit, etc., as well as deep processing of porcelain art based on this, such as large-scale porcelain art paintings, background walls, hanging paintings, etc.; rock slabs are mainly geometric three-dimensional spaces in the home application field, including dining tables, desks, Bar counters, cabinets, wardrobes, bathroom cabinets, furniture countertops, partitions, liners, back panels, etc., mainly compete with traditional natural stone, artificial stone, wood products and other materials for application scope and space.

From the processing point of view, the processing methods of large slabs are mainly cutting and splicing during the application process, such as large-space walls and floors, which are much simpler than rock slab processing, and can be professionally trained by traditional tile shoppers. Upgraded, of course, it must be paved with some professional paving tools, including wet pasting, tile adhesive pasting, keel hanging, etc.; rock slabs are mostly deep-processing, including cutting, drilling, digging, and inverting. Corners, closings, splicing, pasting, etc., are highly professional and highly technical, and require a series of professional equipment. A little carelessness will cause the damage and waste of the rock slab. At present, the deep processing of rock slabs in most companies is in the form of outsourcing, which is realized by professional supporting processing plants.

From the name point of view, the rock board is obviously better than the big board. The big board only reflects the "big" of the product specification, and the "rock board" not only includes the "big" of the product specification, but also Reflect the inherent performance and characteristics of the product. The difference of one word indicates the realm and height. Because of this, “slate” has become a new species in the industry, and many past slab products have also been transformed into slate products.
